How can mindfulness build self-confidence?

Mindfulness teaches people to acknowledge their emotions and respond productively. But how can mindfulness build self-confidence? Read about it in this article from Confidant Health.

Dealing with low self-esteem or a lack of confidence can feel debilitating. Although there are many ways to overcome this problem, mindfulness may be the easiest and most effective solution. Mindfulness means tuning into the present moment (even if it is stressful or challenging) with an attitude of acceptance, non-judgement, and openness.

Mindfulness is a skill that helps people cope with internal experiences like anxiety, resistance, insecurity, uncertainty, and frustration. Research published in The Journal of Positive Psychology shows that mindfulness positively affects self-esteem and is an efficient technique for building confidence.

How Mindfulness Helps

Mindfulness teaches people to acknowledge their feelings and then respond to them in more productive ways. It helps them reduce suffering and increase acceptance when faced with uncomfortable feelings instead of avoiding them. By practicing mindfulness, people are more likely to allow their values to guide their actions than their fears.

Besides building confidence and increasing self-esteem, there are other benefits to practicing mindfulness. Mindfulness can address the underlying processes such as negative thoughts that reinforce low self-esteem and poor self-confidence. By changing these thoughts and beliefs through mindfulness, people are able to change the resulting behaviors associated with low self-esteem and a lack of confidence.

With regular practice, mindfulness can and will assist individuals to feel more secure and confident. It is a wonderful tool that anyone can easily implement in their life and use as an empowerment technique.
