In order to prescribe or dispense buprenorphine for the treatment of opioid use disorder, prescribers must undertake a specific training and receive a waiver required by the Drug Addiction Treatment Act of 2000 (DATA 2000) that allows them to use Schedule III, IV, and V medications to treat opioid dependency.
